Maintenance / cleaning / repair
In order to have clear healthful water for your koi or goldfish you must perform periodic maintenance. If you are unable or unwilling to do it yourself, we can help.
Spring opening and/or cleaning
If your pond was winterized and it is clean of debris, we can reinstall your equipment, clean your filter and restart your pond. It is extremely important that the accumulation of winter debris is removed from your pond before it begins to decompose and pollute your pond. We can safely remove any size fish from any size pond and completely drain and clean your pond to remove the waste accumulated in your pond. Please call to discuss your pond and the services desired.
Winterization and/or cleaning
Your pond should be as clean of debris as possible before the cold weather effects your pond. As the water temperature drops your fish become inactive and have no interest in eating; however, they are still producing waste. For this reason we recommend that filtration continue throughout the winter. If you choose to turn off your equipment, we must drain the pump, filter and UV sterilizer to prevent freezing water from damaging equipment. If you choose to keep your system running all winter, we recommend removing the UV sterilizer to prevent freezing water from cracking the very fragile quartz sleeve and installing a shunt in its place to allow the system to keep running. If your pond requires draining and cleaning we can safely remove your fish and completely drain and clean your pond to remove waste that will pollute your pond as it decays. We strongly recommend the installation of a durable net with small holes to keep leaves and debris out of your pond. Please call to discuss your pond and the services desired.
Scheduled Services
Routine maintenance can be scheduled weekly, bi-weekly or monthly depending on your needs. Filters and skimmers generally require cleaning on a weekly basis to assure clean healthful water for you fish. Each visit includes inspection of all equipment to assure proper operation, cleaning of filter and skimmer, inspection of fish for health issues, partial water change and water testing for ammonia, nitrites, total alkalinity and chlorine. We use your chemicals to condition water. In order to make your job easier, we can deliver chemicals, medication, food or supplies as needed. Fish health and diseases
Our decades of experience as well as fish health training at the University of Georgia, School of Veterinary Medicine give us the experience and skills others simply do not possess. We also have a chemist on our staff and stereo and compound microscopes at our laboratory to help us diagnose parasite infestations. We also offer the essential diagnostic procedure of skin scraping of ailing fish to determine if parasites are causing a problem. Once we have microscopically identified a specific parasite, we can recommend a suitable treatment. Should you suspect health issues in your pond, please do not hesitate to call us and discuss your situation.
